AEM Group has decades of experience providing environmental permitting and multimedia environmental compliance assessment services to federal and commercial customers nationwide. Our major customers for these services include the United States Air Force (USAF), the United States Department of Agriculture—Forest Service (USDA-FS), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and over 200 commercial customers.

Our environmental permitting experience includes air quality permitting (New Source Review (NSR), Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD), Title V Renewable Operating Permit (Title V ROP)), industrial wastewater/storm water permitting, and RCRA permitting for hazardous waste processing facilities.

Example projects

Site Assessment / Remediation Air construction permit application, Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida

AEM Group prepared a construction permit application package for the installation of boilers. The application package was prepared per the Air Force guidelines and applicable federal and sate air quality regulations. Various tasks included: reviewing existing air permits; conducting a pre-visit conference call with the COTR to review project scope and deliverables, and review of H&S and security requirements; conducting a site visit including meeting with key staff to review permitting and proposed operations; reviewing available onsite documents such as material/fuel usage and emission calculations; perform air emission calculations; review of federal and state air quality regulations for applicability; preparation of a draft permit application for review by the COTR; and preparation of a final permit application package for the COTR for submission to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

Environmental Compliance Assessments (ECAs), USDA-FS Region 8, Atlanta, GA

AEM Group conducted Environmental Compliance Audits (ECAs) for three National Forests (NFs): Daniel Boone National Forest, Kentucky; Cherokee National Forest, Tennessee; and the National Forests of Florida.

The ECAs were designed to meet the requirements of the Forest Service Management Review System (FSM 1410), Executive Order 13423 Section 3, and the key federal environmental programs: Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), Federal Insecticide Rodenticide and Fungicide Act (FIFRA), Pollution Prevention Act (PPA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), and Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). In addition, local and state environmental regulations were also reviewed for applicability determination.

Third party audit of Environmental Management System (EMS), NOAA, Wallops Island, VA

AEM Group conducted third party audits of the EMS program at NOAA’s Alloys Island Facility. Our professionals assessed the EMS Program with the ISO14001 requirements and included: pre-visit conference call with the NOAA COTR; review of H&S and security requirements; a site visit; review of identified EMS documents; facility walkthrough to review operations performed; and the preparation of a written report describing findings and recommendations.

Multi-media environmental compliance assessment and EMS maintenance services, Sodecia North America, Warren, Michigan (Commercial Customer)

The project scope included conducting multimedia environmental compliance audits of seven facilities located in the USA and Canada. Our professionals performed the following: reviewing existing environmental documents; scheduling site visits; conducting kick-off meeting with facility staff to review the scope and objectives of the audit; reviewing available onsite documents; interviewing key people responsible for environmental compliance; conducting exit meeting; performing regulatory applicability assessments; and preparation of written report highlighting findings and recommendations.

Under the annual compliance maintenance contracts since 2010, we conduct site visits, review existing EMS documents (permits, environmental data, spill plans, SPCC, SWPPP, RCRA, etc.), review the EMS document management system, and provide assistance in accomplishing any deficiencies.
